Chiaki-ng on Steam Deck & Linux – Setup Guide (Chiaki4deck)
Chiaki-ng is the best way to play your PS5 on Steam Deck — the official Flatpak build is literally named Chiaki4deck, with touch-friendly UI, gyro support, and HDR in game mode. On desktop Linux it ships as Flatpak or AppImage. Latest stable: v1.10.0.
Install on Steam Deck (Flatpak via Discover)
- Switch to Desktop Mode.
- Open the Discover store, search for Chiaki4deck, and install.
- Or install from the terminal:
Install on Desktop Linux
| Method | Command / Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Flatpak | flatpak install flathub io.github.streetpea.Chiaki4deck |
Recommended; sandboxed; update via Discover or flatpak update |
| AppImage | x86_64 and arm64 builds at GitHub releases | Portable single file; needs system libva + pipewire |
(and
libva for AppImage). Pipewire is also required for DualSense haptic feedback on Linux.Add Chiaki4deck to Steam Game Mode
Chiaki-ng can create a Steam shortcut for you (there is a button in the app — look for the "remind me" /
Steam shortcut option). If you set it up manually, point the non-Steam shortcut at the launcher script:
HDR, Gyro & Performance Tips
- HDR streaming is supported in game mode (gamescope) on Steam Deck.
- Gyro / motion controls are fully supported — useful for aiming in shooters.
- If Vulkan stutters on your hardware, try the new OpenGL renderer (v1.10.0) under Settings → Video → Render.
- Wire your PS5 to the router with Ethernet and use 5 GHz Wi-Fi on the Deck for the lowest latency.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why use chiaki-ng instead of Sony's official app on Steam Deck?
Sony does not offer a Remote Play client for Linux at all, so chiaki-ng (Chiaki4deck) is the only native option on Steam Deck. It also adds HDR, gyro, and deeper controller remapping.
How do I update Chiaki4deck on Steam Deck?
Open Discover in Desktop Mode and install updates there, or run flatpak update io.github.streetpea.Chiaki4deck in the terminal (Konsole).
My DualSense has no rumble/haptics on Linux. How do I fix it?
Advanced haptics require pipewire running on your system. If you forced the Flatpak to use PulseAudio (--env=SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulse), DualSense haptics are disabled by design — switch back to pipewire.
Does HDR work when streaming to the Steam Deck?
Yes — HDR streaming is supported in game mode (gamescope) on Steam Deck, a feature added for the Chiaki4deck builds.
AppImage or Flatpak — which is better?
Flatpak is the smoother choice on Steam Deck and most desktops (managed updates, sandboxing). AppImage is a single portable file, handy if you move between machines, but you must provide libva and pipewire yourself.
