Download Chiaki-ng for macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel) – Install Guide
Chiaki-ng runs natively on macOS for both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) and Intel Macs. The latest stable release, v1.10.0, fixed ARM rendering glitches, the crash-on-exit bug, and controller input issues on Mac. Install it with a single Homebrew command or download the DMG.
Install with Homebrew (Recommended)
Homebrew handles the download, places the app in your Applications folder, and makes future updates a one-liner
(see how to update chiaki-ng).
Manual DMG Download
| File | For | Source |
|---|---|---|
chiaki-ng-macos_arm64-Release.dmg |
Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) | GitHub releases |
chiaki-ng-macos_amd64-Release.dmg |
Intel Macs |
Open the DMG and drag the app into Applications, like any Mac app.
Fix: "Unidentified Developer" Warning
macOS may block the app because it is built outside Apple's paid developer program. This is normal for independent open-source builds:
- Try to open the app once (it will be blocked).
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Find the message about chiaki-ng being blocked and click "Open Anyway".
What's New for Mac in v1.10.0
- Fixed ARM native rendering artifacts and the crash-on-exit bug
- Fixed controller input mapping issues on modern macOS
- Wake and sleep support for your console (added in v1.9.9)
Frequently Asked Questions
Does chiaki-ng support Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) natively?
Yes. There is a dedicated arm64 DMG and a Homebrew cask, and v1.10.0 fixed the remaining ARM rendering and crash-on-exit issues. It does not run under Rosetta translation.
Is chiaki-ng safe to open despite the unidentified-developer warning?
The warning only means the developer did not pay for Apple’s notarization program — common for open-source projects. The code is public and auditable, and the binaries on the GitHub releases page are built by the project team. Verify the SHA-256 checksum if you want extra assurance.
Homebrew or DMG — which should I use?
Homebrew is easier long-term: one command installs, and one command updates. Use the DMG if you prefer manual downloads or do not use Homebrew.
Which macOS versions are supported?
Chiaki-ng targets recent macOS releases on both architectures. If your Mac is too old to run a Vulkan-capable graphics stack, the video renderer may fail to start — in that case try the OpenGL renderer under Settings → Video → Render.
Can I use my DualSense controller with chiaki-ng on Mac?
Yes. Connect via USB or Bluetooth; chiaki-ng supports DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, and gyro. v1.10.0 fixed controller input issues specific to macOS.
