There is no single best handheld for PS Remote Play — it depends on what else you want the device to do. The PlayStation Portal is the cheapest single-purpose option. The Steam Deck is the most versatile and runs chiaki-ng natively. The ROG Ally and Legion Go run Windows, so chiaki-ng installs like any PC…
Short answer: three accessories transform chiaki-ng on the Steam Deck — a docking station with Ethernet (wired = lowest latency), a portable monitor (a travel PS5 setup anywhere), and a fast microSD card (room for your Deck library alongside chiaki-ng). The Deck is chiaki-ng’s most natural home: the official Flatpak is literally called Chiaki4deck. New…
Short answer: a VPN will not make PS Remote Play faster — it adds latency. The only honest reason to use one is when the network you are on blocks remote play entirely: hotel Wi-Fi, campus networks and office firewalls routinely block the ports PlayStation streaming needs. For late-night chiaki-ng sessions without waking the house, low-latency wireless matters more than raw sound specs. Why latency matters in a headset: standard Bluetooth…
Short answer: the Sony DualSense is the best controller for chiaki-ng — it unlocks the full PlayStation experience with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and gyro, all supported by chiaki-ng’s input system. On a budget, an Xbox Wireless Controller or 8BitDo pad works great thanks to chiaki-ng’s extensive remapping. One of chiaki-ng’s biggest advantages over Sony’s…

The Razer Kishi V2 is the best alternative, especially if you also play on PC…
Short answer: the biggest latency win for PS Remote Play is not a setting — it is your network. Wire your PS5 or PS4 to the router with an Ethernet cable and give your laptop, Steam Deck or phone a clean 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6 signal, and most stutter and input lag disappears. The gear below…
